Community Voices in Research
The Community Voices in Research programme, funded by NHS England and developed in partnership with NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, aims to tackle the under-representation in research among diverse groups and communities in Suffolk and North East Essex, by increasing awareness and motivation to participate in research.
Together with Suffolk Community Foundation and Essex Community Foundation, we are funding community-led organisations to understand what research means and what areas of research are a priority to them, the barriers they face, and how these barriers could be overcome.
The National Institute of Health Research is providing training to the organisations to become community research champions, to enable them to hold conversations to understand the issues and encourage people to consider participating in research, and to eventually become part of a network of diverse research champions in Suffolk and North East Essex. In addition, Health Innovation East is mapping local research that may be of interest to our communities.
Based on our learning from this programme we will develop a set of best practice principles in inclusion for local statutory and VCFSE organisations designing research or applying for funding. We will also showcase our learning and our principles at an online event for our health and care system in summer 2024.
